What are lab-grown gems?
There are many reasons why we have chosen lab-grown gems over the traditional mined gems.
1. Ethically Sourced
Lab-grown gems are conflict-free and avoid the environmental and human rights concerns often associated with traditional mining. You can wear them with confidence, knowing they haven’t contributed to unethical practices.
2. Environmentally Friendly
Creating gems in a lab significantly reduces land disruption, water usage, and carbon emissions compared to mining.
3. Exceptional Quality and Affordability
Lab-grown gems are chemically, physically, and optically the same as mined stones. The only difference is their origin, not their radiance or beauty.
You get a stunning gem at a more accessible price point, without compromising on luxury, quality, or style.
What are moissanites? How do they compare to diamonds?
Moissanites offer the same look and durability as diamonds at a fraction of the price. Because they’re grown in labs, moissanites avoid the environmental harm of mining, making them a better choice for the planet.
With a hardness of 9.25 on the Mohs scale (diamonds are 10), moissanites are extremely durable and perfect for heirloom-quality pieces that last. In fact, moissanites have a higher refractive index than diamonds, meaning they sparkle even more.
To the naked eye, moissanites are nearly indistinguishable from diamonds.
What’s the difference between solid gold, gold-filled, and gold-plated jewelry?
- Solid gold is made entirely of gold through and through. It won’t tarnish, fade, or wear off; it’s the most durable and valuable option.
- Gold-filled has a thick layer of gold mechanically bonded to a base metal. It’s more durable than plated jewelry but can wear over time.
- Gold-plated has a thin layer of gold electroplated over a base metal. It’s the least durable as the gold can fade or chip with wear.
At AYSH, we only use solid 14k gold — no plating, no shortcuts — for lasting beauty you never have to take off. Each piece is stamped with "14k".
What's the difference between 14k, 18k and 22k gold?
The number refers to the purity of gold in the piece:
- 14k is 58.5% pure gold — it’s the most durable and ideal for everyday wear.
- 18k is 75% pure, offering a richer yellow tone but is slightly softer.
- 22k is 91.6% pure and more common in traditional or cultural jewelry; it’s softer and not recommended for delicate settings or fine detailing.
At AYSH, we use solid 14k gold for its perfect balance of strength and luxury.
